‘It’s hard to know where Kovid-19 started from’
The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Mosul. Intelligence agencies say they may never know where and how the corona virus originated.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released a report on Friday stating that it was difficult to identify the origin of Kovid-19 and that it would never know the origin of the virus. The report details whether the corona virus was transmitted from animals to humans or leaked from laboratories, according to international news outlets.
The ODNI report also points out that both the coronavirus hypothesis that it originated naturally or was leaked from a laboratory may be true. However, the report notes that there is disagreement among analysts as to which of the two estimates is stronger or when the final conclusions can be drawn.
The report also refutes the notion that the coronavirus was created as a biological weapon. According to the report, those who hold such views have “no direct access to the Wuhan Institute of Virology” and are spreading propaganda.
The report was released on Friday amid political differences in the United States over how much China is to blame for the effects of the global epidemic. The latest report is due to update the review released by the Biden administration in August after 90 days.
China, meanwhile, reacted angrily to Friday’s public report.
“The US move to rely on its own intelligence, rather than scientists, to determine the origin of the Covid-19 is a complete political farce,” said Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington.
Earlier, former US President Donald Trump and many of his supporters had described Covid-19 as a “Chinese virus”. But some US intelligence agencies seem to be strongly supporting the idea that the virus originated in nature. Some believe the virus was accidentally leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. But China has denied the allegations.
